I started 3D printing in late 2024, after I was chosen to attend a short course during my National Service, hosted by the National Library Board.
I knew about 3D Printing from years ago, but viewed it as something difficult and a monumental hurdle.
Today, I walk around and think, "Wonder how I can solve this" and "I can design something for that".
To those exploring 3D Printing, try it! Adopt a "1 problem, 100 solutions" mindset, and be prepared to make mistakes. After all, success and expertise is not without blood, sweat, and tears, and we always learn from mistakes.
I value practical prints. Of course, occassionally I would print trinkets or gifts for myself or clients, but a print that serves a purpose is a chunk of melted plastic that doesn't collect dust somewhere.
When people are physically present and can't check Outlook or Teams for your automated message, how do you inform them that you're away?
With this! I printed this so people would know my whereabouts at a glance. By printing it myself, I get to customise every aspect of the indicator, from the colour, size, my name, and whatever text I want to put on the cards!
Note the rounded corners and clean layers. I designed this with safety and comfort in mind (hence the rounded corners) and to reduce supports (and ugly marks), I printed it in 2 pieces, as seen by the locking mechanism.
Also, I made sure to include built-in storage for the other cards!
I had the blessed opportunity to work with a local gym to both design and print customised trophies for a competition they held.
A trophy is something, but a trophy with customised weight plates to show your EXACT personal record AND the plates, barbell, and safety bars are all removable? Exceptional.
Sometimes we have pipette things to other things a lot and having a ring that physically brings the tubes closer and at a more convenient location proves to be practical. Yes, you can spray this with ethanol!
Yes I was not wearing gloves in the above photo, but these tubes were new and empty, and this image was taken just to showcase the features. Please practice good #LabSafety!
I only needed to hear 1 complaint about how the tube sometimes falls down and gets dirty, and how tedious it is to stand there and hold the tube to fill a large carboy.
"Say less" and there it is, a custom holder that I designed from the ground up!
It features fully rotatable clamps for the tube to adjust to many different angles, and the whole contraption could rotate 360°! It's able to hold its position while still being easily adjustable.
Those who know me knows that I dislike non-repairable items and proprietary accessories. I made it such that every joint is made to connect with common M4 bolts, and I ensured that parts that are prone to wear is printed separately, making them easy and cheap to replace!
